Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-10-14

PlainMote (plainmote.link, the “Service”) is operated by xwvike (“we”). These terms set out the conditions under which you may use the Service. By using the Service, you agree to these terms; if you do not agree, please stop using the Service.

1. The Service

The Service provides resource storage and allows resources to be distributed to others through revocable links. The Service is provided free of charge and on an “as is” basis. We make no commitment regarding availability and do not guarantee against data loss; please keep your own backups of important content. We may modify, suspend or discontinue all or part of the Service at any time. If we decide to discontinue the Service, we will make reasonable efforts to announce this within the Service in advance.

2. Accounts

Accounts are created by signing in with GitHub or Google, and we may restrict who is able to register. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account, including actions taken on your behalf by apps you authorize. If you become aware that your account has been compromised, please contact us promptly.

3. User content

You retain all rights to the content you upload or create. To provide the Service, you grant us a licence to store and copy your content and to transmit it to link holders in accordance with the sharing rules you set. This licence terminates when the relevant content is deleted.

You warrant that you hold the necessary rights to the content you store and distribute through the Service.

4. Share links

A share link serves as the access credential: anyone who holds it can retrieve the corresponding content within its validity period and use limit without signing in. Revocation, expiry or deletion prevents only subsequent access and cannot recall content that has already been retrieved. Requests made by messaging applications to generate link previews also count towards the use limit.

The number of resources and the storage available to each account are limited by its plan, and a single item may not exceed 10 MiB. Current usage and limits are shown on the resource list page. Earlier versions of resources count towards storage but occupy only unused space, and are deleted automatically when space runs short or their retention period ends; the Service does not guarantee that any earlier version is kept.

Quick shares on the home page are available to all visitors. Links expire after at most 30 days, the content may not exceed 10 MiB, text is delivered as plain text, images, audio and video can be viewed or played in the browser, and any other file is delivered only as a download, except as provided in the next paragraph for end-to-end encryption.

Quick shares that a signed-in user who has set a master password creates on the home page or with the command line tool with end-to-end encryption chosen are stored and delivered as ciphertext and decrypted in the recipient’s browser. The Service does not hold the key or code needed to decrypt such content, but it remains subject to the acceptable use rules in section 5; upon a report or a violation, the Service may delete the share or restrict the account concerned. If both the master password and the recovery key are lost, the content cannot be recovered.

A signed-in user who sets a master password can turn on end-to-end encryption for a resource. Such a resource is stored and delivered as ciphertext and decrypted by the user in a browser or the Service’s command line tool, or by the recipient of a share link in a browser. The Service does not hold the keys needed to decrypt it, but such content is equally subject to the rules of use in section 5; on receiving a report or finding a violation, the Service may take down or delete the resource or restrict the account. If both the master password and the recovery key are lost, the content cannot be recovered.

5. Acceptable use

When using the Service, you must not:

  1. (a) store or distribute unlawful content, or content that infringes the copyright, trademark rights, privacy or other lawful rights of others;
  2. (b) distribute malware, or use the Service for phishing or fraud;
  3. (c) store or distribute any material depicting the sexual abuse or exploitation of minors;
  4. (d) harass others, or disclose another person’s personal information without their consent;
  5. (e) use the Service to distribute spam;
  6. (f) attack, probe or interfere with the Service, or circumvent quotas, use limits, rate limits or other restrictions, including by creating quick shares in bulk by automated means.

6. Enforcement

Where your content or account violates these terms, where necessary to protect the lawful rights of the Service, other users or third parties, or where required by law, we may remove content, revoke links, and restrict or disable accounts without prior notice. Where circumstances permit, we will inform you of the reason.

7. Reports and complaints

If you discover content that violates these terms, or believe that content infringes your lawful rights, please email [email protected] with the full share link and the grounds for your report. We will take action once the report has been verified.

8. Disclaimer

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss arising from the use of, or inability to use, the Service, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits and business interruption. Nothing in this section excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law.

10. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time and delete your account from the Data page. The account and all of its content are then removed from the active Service, links already sent stop working immediately, and the data cannot be restored through the Service; please export any data you wish to keep from the Data page before deleting it.

11. Changes to these terms

When these terms are revised, we will update the date at the top of this page, and material revisions will be stated on this page before they take effect. Your continued use of the Service after a revision takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
